Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

Sometimes the best Christmas present is remembering what you’ve already got.

Cathy Guisewite

The very best part of journaling is the memories. Good memories or bad, the memories are how we learn. They keep us warm at night or warn us away from known dangers. Memories are as necessary to our lives as oxygen.

In this world, surrounded by material things that we believe are necessary, take the time this week to enjoy the things you have, miss the ones that aren’t with you, and embrace the ones who are.

Take the time to wish someone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukah, Seasons Greetings, or any other thing you want to say. And if someone wishes you a Merry Christmas or one of the others, be gracious and say thank you. Regardless of how you believe, anyone wishing you good wishes is doing so out of the goodness of their heart. At the end of the day, the goodness of heart is what matters.

Weekly Inspiration

Christmas Tree Journal Spread

There are so many ways to incorporate Christmas into your journal. Painting a tree in the center of the page is a brilliant plan!

Christmas Bullet Journal Spread

I love the use of color and drawings. If you can’t draw, you could always replace them with stickers or photos!

Gingerbread Bullet Journaling

I adore the gingerbread man! The entire layout using cookies in varying shapes is brilliant. The dangling christmas ornaments are great as well!

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

50.01 When should Christmas music start?

I love Christmas music, but some places began playing it in October. Do you play it in the car? In the house? Maybe you only play it at gatherings? So many places play it nonstop that I only listen when I am there. I rarely play it myself because I hear it so much everywhere else.

50.02 What are your favorite Christmas songs and why?

I have always loved the sounds of the holidays. The songs can be instrumental or classic. I love them all. Are you a jingle bells or silver bells person? All of the songs hold memories for me. I remember singing Silver Bells; only my family says I said Silbie Bells. I remember singing Jingle Bells in the car with my parents. Such sweet memories!

50.03 Are you prepared for the holiday already?

Have you bought your groceries and shopped for gifts? Do you have your lights out and your gifts wrapped? How much do you have left to do? Today’s a great day to make notes and get your mind organized!

50.04 What’s the worst Xmas gift you ever received?

We all have that ONE gift. What was yours? How awful was it? Who gave it to you? Were you forced to pretend you loved it? Mine was a very hateful woman in our family who gave me underwear that was better suited for her size and age when I was about 13. I was so hurt!

50.05 How do you feel about regifting?

There are two different camps about regifting. Sometimes, I fall in one camp or the other. Does it matter who gave you the gift? Do you only regift gift cards? Would it surprise you to realize that by regifting an item, the original person DID help you out?

50.06 How do you feel about elf on the shelf?

Isn’t it funny how many things around Christmas have the ‘do’ and ‘don’t’ camps? We did do the elf on the shelf and named him Elfy. My daughter is 18 this year, and she will be the one to get him out again and set him up just like she did last year. It’s a fun and unique way to throw creative thinking into the season!

50.07 Word of the week: Bauble.

Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. Most of us know the meaning of this word in relation to Christmas, but did you know there is a historical meaning as well? Interesting stuff!
