Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.
How To Use Weekly Prompts
Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.
Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.
In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.
Focus Quote

So I often feel like the self that I construct in writing feels truer to how I think of myself than the self I’m constructing in any other way.
Yaa Gyasi
When writing, there is freedom in my thoughts and words. I can say what I want, when I want, without regard for anyone else’s feelings. This results in me being fully myself at the time of writing. We spend a lot of time adjusting our tone, thoughts, and words to account for the thoughts and opinions of others. While that’s okay, it also is stifling at times. There is an intense pleasure in being free to state your thoughts and opinions. For me, this only happens in the journal.
Weekly Inspiration

Journaling
A cathartic journal page doesn’t have to be all pretty and simple. Let those thoughts out, bits and pieces, or long flowing paragraphs. Just let it all out.
Art Journaling
“I think I think too much”
Art journal pages that speak to my state of mind always make me the happiest! They remind me I am not alone in my moments.

Bullet Journaling
I love how this bullet journal page pulls together the elements of art, photos, and standard bullet journaling in a unique way.
The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!
Weekly Prompts
56.01 Describe your best friend.
How do they make you feel? Are they funny or serious? Do you laugh until you cry when you are together? Do you cry together? When your friend is hurting, do you hurt as well? Friends are a blessing in our lives. So grateful for my friends.
56.02 Are you a person who is ready when tax season starts, or do you put it off until the last minute?
Usually, I have all of my things together and prepared in December. This year, I’m not sure what happened; it’s still all a mess.
56.03 What is something you would like to learn more about?
Do you have a desire to learn about gardening, painting, or some other type of hobby? Perhaps an event in history interests you? I have a habit of digging into the most random of things. Today, it was the first band Chester Bennington played in and the history of highlighters. Sometimes, the rabbit holes are the best distraction.
56.04 What’s your pet peeve this week?
Do your pet peeves change, or are you one of those lucky people who only have a few? Mine have a habit of changing with the ebb and flow of my emotions. When I am feeling emotional, all sounds aggravate me.
56.05 What’s on your schedule today?
Do you have plans? Will it be a busy day or an easy, laid-back day? Is it a dress-up-and-go kind of day, or will you hang out in your PJs all day? Maybe skip work and hang out in a hammock? So many choices, so little time. What will you choose today?
56.06 If you had the power, what would you change in your life at this very moment?
All your past choices and events stay the same, but one magical change could be yours. Would you have a better job? Change your physical appearance? Increase the balance in your checkbook? Change your marital status? Go big or go home, right? One big change would be such a hard choice.
56.07 Word of the week: Foppish.
Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. Do you know someone who is foppish?
