Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.
How To Use Weekly Prompts
Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.
Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.
In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.
Focus Quote
Write hard and clear about what hurts.
Ernest Hemingway
Journaling about our emotions is important. It is not always easy and usually it is exceptionally hard. Sometimes, writing through the tears results in smeared pages but the purge of feelings onto the paper is a necessary evil. Allowing yourself the freedom to lay down your hurt and anger on the page will result in a lighter load on your shoulders.
Weekly Inspiration
Journaling
Write It Out: Just write it all out, one word after another.

Journaling with Prompts
A prompt can guide your focus. It can’t give you thoughts to write, but rather it gives your thoughts direction.

Journaling
Write your feelings to someone instead of just aimlessly. That someone can be yourself, your partner, or an imaginary person. Some people even write to the journal itself and even name the journal.

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. It is solely for the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen in their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!
Weekly Prompts
18.01 How many states have you visited?
Are there any that you haven’t visited but would like to? Take a moment and count them up. I had to use the map to mark them all off. I was pleasantly surprised to see I have only been to 33 states. We travel so much that it feels like we have been to more!
18.02 Are you a mountains or ocean kind of person?
If you had a choice, would you take off to go to the ocean? Is it the beaches or the water that draws you? Or would you take off for the mountains with the need to be surrounded by trees and wilderness? Our travels have taught me I am both. My most preferred location is northwestern Washington. The Anacortes area gives me access to the mountains within a couple of hours and access to the ocean. Pure perfection!
18.03 Imagine you wake up this morning to a fresh, snow-covered world. What would you do?
Would you curl up by a window and stare at the pristine white world outside? Or would you rush to get out in it? There is nothing more beautiful than seeing fresh snow. The world looks so clean and inviting when it’s all white and beautiful.
18.04 What’s on your mind for lunch or dinner today?
Are you stuck at work and dreaming of a particular food? Are you craving tacos or pizza? How about a Greek salad with grilled chicken? What exactly sounds like a dream meal today? I’m leaning towards a burrito, but only because it’s easy and I can eat while I drive to Wind River Canyon!
18.05 How do you read? Audio books or reading?
Do you feel the same about audiobooks as you do about reading? Once upon a time, I was against the audiobooks with a passion! Then, as my life became busier, I realized I could utilize audiobooks to continue “reading” even while doing the dishes or driving. Almost every book I read also gets listened to when I am busy doing other things. It’s amazing!
18.06 Have you ever had to use a laundromat?
How did you feel about it? Was it a good or bad experience? I have used many over the years in our travels. I find it tiresome to do laundry when we are home because it takes forever to get it all done. When we are traveling, I get the week’s laundry done in three hours.
18.07 Word of the week: Borborygmus.
Look it up, write down the meaning, and use it in a sentence or three. This word amuses me since I never realized there was an actual word for it!
