Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Weekly Prompts

#1. Which area of technology amazes you the most?

In today’s world, technology is everywhere. With the growing capabilities of AI, there are limitless applications for its use. Does AI scare you or amaze you? What about your watch being a substitute for your wallet, phone, and sometimes keys? In the not-too-distant past, we could only use the phone wrapped in that long curly cord. How has it helped you or hurt you?

#2. What is your most treasured piece of memorabilia?

Is it a photo, a trinket you picked up on an important day, or a gift you received? I travel with my husband and his work. In these travels, we pick up things along the way. I have a serious love affair with coffee cups. So, I have cups from Las Vegas, Canada, Anaheim, Chicago, etc. But the one piece that means the most to me is a rock I picked up in Port Townsend, Washington. I drew a mandala on it with white acrylic ink. It means more to me than anything.

#3.Are you a dog or a cat person? Or do you even like either?

For the longest time, I was neither. We got a MinPin about six years ago for my daughter, and low and behold, that animal thinks I am its happiest place to sit. Sometimes, it drives me mad. She is a sweet dog, though, and has at least partially taught me to be more of a dog person.

#4. Do you prefer the city or the country?

This question is about your preferences, not where you are currently living. It’s about what you like. I spend a lot of time in the city. I like the comfort of privacy, wooded areas, and the absence of noise. Do you like the noise in the city? I prefer the accessibility of things to do and places to go in the city. But for comfort reasons, the country is where I call home.

#5. What kind of teenager were you?

Were you a moody, hormonal teenager? Did you talk back to your parents? Were you wild and untameable? Having a teenager has taught me so much about the type of teenager I was. I’ve learned that a lot of the emotions and hormonal imbalances I experienced were normal. I did not know that as a kid. It’s heartbreaking to think we grew up believing we were abnormal.

#6.Are you a Post-it note type, or do you prefer a notebook?

Journaling aside, what do you do with your scraps of notes? At the office, I am all about the post-it notes. When I am done with them, I stick them in a folder just in case I need that scrap of information again. At home, I use a small notebook. I make notes on the page until it’s full and then turn to the next.

#7.Word of the week : Bailiwick.

Look it up, write about it, use it in a sentence. Is it what you thought it was? It isn’t what I thought it was, not even a little bit! What’s your bailiwick?
