Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

Journal writing is a voyage to the interior. -Christina Baldwin

All voyages include moving from one location to another. While journaling may not feel like a roadtrip, it most definitely is over time. As you journal, you will travel along the highways and byways of your thoughts and feelings. You may not always be aware of the distances you travel, but every now and again, you will glance up and realize you were moving all along.

I love the traveling analogy when it comes to journaling. It is so true. I began morning pages over 1600 days ago. Since then, I have traveled so far. I have gone down some clear, accessible roads while others were foggy and haunted. Only upon exiting those areas did I realize just how far I had gone. In the end, every single moment has been worth it, and I am ready for all of my future travels.

Weekly Inspiration

Journaling

Pages of nothing but writing have always inspired me. No idea what they say; I don’t read them. I just let the sight of all that effort inspire me to write more.

Creative Journaling

Pages like this make me want to run to my desk and start gluing and sticking stuff on my pages. Now.

Art Journaling

Art journaling can be as simple as you want it to be. There are no hard and fast rules for what must go on the page or for how much. You do you!

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

35.01 How do you handle confrontation?

Are you one of those that never backs down without giving a good fight? Or are you one who turns the other cheek and avoids a conflict at all costs? Perhaps you are somewhere in between and react to the given confrontation, depending on the situation. I am definitely in the ‘Depends’ category. My mood can directly influence how I respond to a given situation.

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 1

35.02 Do you have a go-to game on your phone?

Once upon a time, my oldest daughter and I were making wisecracks about people addicted to Candy Crush. I downloaded it, and sure enough, the addiction began. She still laughs at me for that. What game has you wrapped around its little finger? Do you get swindled into paying to play just a bit more?

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 2

35.03 Describe someone you briefly met who influenced your life.

Was it a chance meeting? Were they connected to a financial decision or moment in your life? Perhaps it was a stranger at the coffee shop. My list here is pretty long. A girl who works in an office I visit, a woman who helped my husband when he was hurt, a child in my daughter’s life who made me change my opinions, and so on. Write about the one that affected you the most.

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 3

35.04 What do you do when facing a leap of faith?

This is usually an intense moment, do you believe? Do you run? Do you struggle and fight against what you know you should do? There are a lot of situations that can bring us to this moment, either spiritually or otherwise. I have recently found myself at that edge and it can be a hard decision to make.

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 4

35.05 Do you struggle with procrastination?

Do you have any methods that can help you overcome it? Does it take over your whole world when it hits full force? Is yours like a rollercoaster that goes up and down, slower and faster? Mine is, and it sure makes life challenging sometimes. I have discovered a method that works for me, though, at least for the time being.

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 5

35.06 Name three things you do not have but would love to be able to afford.

Everyone is struggling with money these days. So what are some things you want? Fancy stuff? Plain? A new car or a new wardrobe? An expensive perfume? That set of watercolor crayons you have your eye on? Describe each item and why you want them. Is it something you want on a whim? Or is it something more essential?

Weekly Prompts 35 - Prompt 6

35.07 Word of the week: Otalgia.

Look it up, write down the meaning, and then use it in a sentence or three. Have you ever had an otalgia? My sister has had more than her share over her lifetime. I was lucky and only ever had one or two. What about you?
