Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

Whether you’re keeping a journal or writing as a meditation, it’s the same thing. What’s important is you’re having a relationship with your mind.

Natalie Goldberg

When you are writing in your journal, asking yourself questions and finding the answers is the most intimate you can be with yourself. Get to know your own thoughts and desires, ask yourself the hard questions, and then allow yourself to answer them honestly and openly. Your journal is your friend, it’s the best friend you can have. Your journal will always listen and allow you to say exactly what is on your mind.

Comfort and writing should go hand in hand. Find where you are comfortable!

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. It is solely for the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen in their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

15.01 Have you ever experienced a total solar eclipse?

If not, explain what you have experienced and how it made you feel. Did the entire event spellbind you? Did you feel a flood of emotion as you stared at the corona in the sky? I have witnessed partial eclipses, lunar eclipses, and now, a total solar eclipse. I can not begin to describe how amazing those few minutes were.

15.02 Have you watched the Twilight movies or read the books?

I read the books long before watching the movies. I highly recommend both. There are some corny moments and aspects to the story, but overall, they are worth the time. If you’ve seen them, write about how they affected you. What did you like most about the story? Were you entranced and locked in until the end? Do you miss the characters and wonder how their lives progressed? If you haven’t, why not?

15.03 What is your favorite type of notebook or journal?

Honestly, I design and sell journals on Amazon, but those are not my favorites. I am a Stalogy girl. Because I use fountain pens, I am very particular about the type of paper I use. I also like the thinness of the pages, which allows me to have more pages in each journal. So what is your preference? Do you have one? Why? What qualities do you want and need in a journal?

15.04 What is your zodiac sign?

Write down everything you know about it. If you don’t know much, then it is time to learn. I thought I knew what traits a Leo should have– extrovert, confident, vivacious, all things I am not. I am an introvert, and happily so. Being a loner has always been okay with me. I have only recently learned that there are many more traits to a Leo, and I do fit my sign. So write about yours, learn more about it, and how it guides and affects your life. It’s truly amazing to learn so much about yourself.

15.05 What type of weather is your favorite?

Storms? Sunny days? How about rain or snow? I become entranced when it snows. My heart comes alive when the entire world is draped in clean white snow. However, my anxieties are calmed when it rains. The sound and feel of the rain soothes me in a way I can’t describe. What about you? Which is your favorite? Or do you love them all?

15.06 Have you ever tried grounding?

Know much about it? I am a firm believer in the healing abilities of the earth. Putting your bare feet on the earth is one of the most amazingly free health boosts you can get. Write about the benefits you found in grounding and how it has helped your life. If you haven’t ever tried it? Why not? Please read up on it and then write what you’ve learned. Try it for two weeks and then write the results. I think you’ll be amazed.

15.07 Word of the week: Coddiwomple.

Look it up, write the definition, and use it in a sentence or two. I really love unique words!
