Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.
How To Use Weekly Prompts
Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.
Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.
In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.
Focus Quote
I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.
Flannery O’Connor
This quote amuses me because it hits so close to home. I don’t generally read back through my morning pages. But in my other journaling, I do go back and read. Sometimes, I am surprised by what it means after reading it for the second time. The most important thing I have discovered about journaling over the years is that there is no hard rule that says you HAVE to go back and reread it. You do not have to write with the assumption it will be read by you or anyone else. You are free to write what you want when you want, and how you want.
Weekly Inspiration
Journaling With Drawings
Your journal entries can be about actual events, places, or things. But sometimes, they can also be more fanciful. Write down your dreams or manifest your desires! You Choose!

Creative Journaling
Some people do creative journaling so well that I want to delete them from the internet. Their writing is so neat and clean that I am jealous.

Art Journaling
Art journaling comes with or without writing, and with or without paint. It can be any way you want it to be. (If you know who this image belongs to let me know so that I can link them properly )

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!
Weekly Prompts
27.01 What kind of traveler are you?
When you are on a road trip, traveling from one place to the other, do you stop when you see something you’d like to look at? Or do you pass it by thinking, “Oh, I’ll stop when I come back through”? Do you stop anywhere on a whim? Or is everything scheduled and perfect?
27.02 When was the last time you did an honest-to-goodness road trip?
I’m talking about the kind of road trip where you drive based on the gas in your tank. The kind where you have no destination in mind; you take roads randomly and have a good time. Have you ever done that? Would you try it? Which way would you go?
27.03 What movies did you watch as a child that affected your life the most?
Make a list of them and describe why each one touched you the way it did. My list starts at Bambi, but from there, I was affected by E.T., Star Wars, Sixteen Candles, and Say Anything. I just wanted someone to hold up that boombox for me! On a deeper level, these movies taught me hope, courage, love, and how to handle pain and loss.
27.04 Have you ever been obsessed with a toy?
This can be a toy from any age. When I was a toddler, I had a doll called Geen Baby. She was a red-headed doll all dressed in green. I sure loved that doll and carried her with me everywhere. But even now, I go through phases of enjoying toys. My current love affair is with the blind-box figurines Hirono. The detail is impressive, and they are just cool, to be honest. Often, you will see them lurking around in my photos.
27.05 Do you have anything that you collect?
I have an obsession with art supplies. I also have mini collections of crystals, fountain pens, figurines, and other fun stuff. But my biggest collection is in the art/journaling supplies. I have pens, papers, stickers, washi, accessories, etc. What about you? What do you have that you continue to add to or collect? Is it a usable collection or just one to admire? Write about it, how you started, and what you have added to it.
27.06 Describe your favorite t-shirt.
When did you get it? Where did you get it from? Does it connect to a memory, or is it just something you really like? My T-shirts change with the seasons. Not really, but it feels that way sometimes. I’m wearing my Anacortes tee right now. I love Anacortes more than life itself. When I wear a T-shirt that reminds me of a place I love, it makes the whole day seem brighter.
27.07 Word of the Week: Wowser.
Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. I had no idea this word had a different meaning. Sometimes, these words get me tickled at how they get picked up and used for secondary meanings.
I hope these weekly prompts inspire you to think harder, dig deeper, and write a little longer this week. Looking for more prompts? Check out the Divergent Dialogues category to see more weekly prompts, 31+ Fun Journaling Prompts, or head on over to my Pinterest board!
