Weekly Prompts #28

Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

Write about what really interests you, whether it is real things
or imaginary things, and nothing else.

C. S. Lewis

When you sit down to write, it is almost guaranteed to be hard if you are trying to write about something you are not deeply interested in. If you do not want to write about your day, don’t. If you do not want to write about your past, don’t. No rules, guidelines, or instructions say you have to do something you don’t want to do in your journal. Instead, delve into your personal interests, explore them, and let your passion guide your writing.

The inspiration I have chosen for this week shows you that you can do just a little, and it is beautiful. You need to see that the choice is entirely yours. It is not up to me how you write in your journal. Your journal doesn’t even have to be legible to anyone at all. You can bypass writing and go straight into scribble journaling! There are so many options for you to try, and you should. Try them all until you find the cozy, comfortable spot in your journal that makes your soul sigh with happiness!

Weekly Inspiration

Creative Journaling

Your writing can be as brief as you want it to be. One sentence or twenty, it is completely your choice.

Two words, one photo. The meaning
is perfectly clear! I feel the joy of that first
page, I’m ready to start with her!

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

28.01 Have you ever tried manifesting, or do you believe in it?

To manifest is to achieve your dreams, goals, or desires by believing you can. Believing in yourself or your abilities is something we all do daily or try to do. Being purposeful about your beliefs helps to subconsciously guide you to make decisions that guide you to your desires. In other words, to manifest money, you may say, “I am prosperous.” By believing that, you begin to pay more attention to your budget and try to save more. The result is you become more prosperous. So, have you tried it? Does it help you?

28.02 What’s on your desk right now?

Stop what you are doing and look at your desk. Of course, there are pens and paper, but what else? Do you have figurines that are meaningful? Do you have keepsakes from someone? Crystals? Candles? Pretty paint water cups? Yes, yes, I have all of that and more! List off the things that you see and what they mean to you.

28.03 Do you vote at election time?

I know there are a lot of election “times.” Choose one, any, or all of them. Do you vote? Why? I used to believe voting was useless. I did not understand how the Electoral College worked and felt my vote did not matter. It was in my mid-30s that I truly began to see how the Electoral College works and why it’s necessary.

28.04 Have you ever tried tarot or oracle cards?

What was your experience with them? Did you find that the experience was enlightening or frightening? I believe they are a tool for our intuition and can be beneficial if used properly. If you have yet to try them, you should! You can even use them as a journaling tool!

28.05 If you could only have five items from your art writing supplies and everything else had to go, what would they be?

I will make this easier by saying pen and paper are a given. So, which supplies would you choose? Which of your supplies are those you can’t live without? This was harder than I thought, and I had to think about how to use ONLY those five supplies. Along with my pen and paper, I would definitely choose watercolor, my travel brush, double-sided tape, a printer, and acrylic.

28.06 Do you have a favorite coffee cup?

What does it look like? How does it feel? Where did you get it? Why is it your favorite? I have an obsession with coffee cups; I’m not even going to lie! When I pick up my cup, I am immediately triggered by the memory of where it came from and who I was with. So my favorite does change, but my handmade cup from Canada has been my favorite for over a year.

28.07 Word of the week: Paraph.

Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. Do you have a paraph? Do you want one? I have a little one, but I would love to have a big beautiful paraph!
