Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

Journaling is a way of capturing your life one day at a time. It is a wonderful way to be able to reflect on your past whether in good times or bad. It is really easy to forget how wonderful your life is in certain times, and a quick look back allows you to see the people, places visited, and get some perspective.

This week has been a whirlwind ride. Donald Trump dodged a literal bullet. We are finding out that Joe Biden is deteriorating beyond the point of being president. He wouldn’t be allowed to drive or handle his bills if he were my grandpa. The world seems to be going wild. I don’t understand it, I don’t like it. I want common sense back in our government. Honestly, I don’t care if that’s by way of a democrat or a republican, I just want common sense again.

It is also my wedding anniversary. I love my anniversary. But it’s also a time for me to recognize that it’s only an anniversary of the last nine years. My husband and I have been together for 14 years. We found each other during a terrible time in his life. We began as friends, ended up connected at the elbow, and have been every day since. So yes, I’m happy about those nine years, but the five before are just as important to me—fourteen years of friendship, adventures, and love. I am a very blessed woman!

Weekly Inspiration

Journaling

I don’t know about you, but just the image of written pages inspires me to write. More often than not, when I am browsing for inspiration photos I get distracted and end up in my own journal.

Creative Journaling

I love the mixture of drawings and added images. On my own pages, I will add stickers or collages and then doodle all around them. Doodling is such a stress reliever.

Art Journaling

I love how the flowers and artwork almost seem to have been laid on top of the page. She did an amazing job here! The added writing makes it my favorite type of art journaling.

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

29.01 Describe your favorite sound.

We are affected by sounds all the time. A baby crying can make you cringe or make you emotional. Everyone is different. So, what sound makes you genuinely smile or feel warm and fuzzy inside? Is it the sound of birds? The ocean? Or maybe it’s just the sound of running water or the wind in the leaves. Whatever sound it is, describe it and then describe how it affects you and why.

Weekly Prompts 01

29.02 What goal have you set for yourself that you would like to accomplish before the end of the year?

Describe what it is and the path that you are on to get there. Have you made it halfway to your goal? Are you excited about reaching the goal? Why did you set that goal in particular?

Weekly Prompts 02

29.03 Write down a memory of a time you spent with a grandparent that means a lot to you.

Did you go shopping? Hiking? Maybe you worked in the garden together or cooked a meal. It can be anything you like. Describe the person, your relationship, the moment, and why it means so much to you.

Weekly Prompts 03

29.04 What quality do you like to see most in other people?

Is it their ability to be kind or respectful? Do you prefer people who are witty and have a no-nonsense attitude? What about people who are quiet and thoughtful? Write about the quality you like best and who already has it in your life.

Weekly Prompts 04

29.05 When is honesty NOT the best policy?

Is it okay to lie sometimes? Write down a list of reasons when it’s acceptable to lie or tell a fib. We push our children to be honest while lying to them regularly. Think Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. But is that a bad thing? So, what are your thoughts on lying and its place in the world?

Weekly Prompts 05

29.06 Write about your favorite animated film or series.

There are, of course, Disney movies, but there are so many more these days. We recently watched Star Trek: Prodigy, and I was blown away by how good it was. So write about your favorite, and if you aren’t usually an animated fan, try some of the new ones and see how you like them.

Weekly Prompts 06

29.07 Word of the Week: Sarmie.

Look it up, write it down, and write all about your favorite Sarmie. I am not always a fan of sarmies, but every now and then, I really want one.
