Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.
How To Use Weekly Prompts
Using a prompt can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one everyday, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.
Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.
In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! They are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.
Focus Quote
Journaling leads people to life changes, leaps of faith, new insights, and meaningful decisions.
Lynda Monk
Sitting down with your thoughts and wrangling them all into one place can lead you down new paths. You may find yourself facing big life decisions, and journaling about your thoughts on them will help you see the path you need to take more clearly. It could be a decision on whether to take on new debt, or moving to a new town or apartment, or whether or not you will buy that new house you’ve been wanting. When you journal, your conversation with yourself (if you’re open) will allow you to voice your doubts and respond to them with the answers you need to hear.
Journaling can help you to move forward with more confidence in the decisions that you make. Sometimes, it will save you from taking a step that could damage you later on. My journal is an incredible springboard for my ideas, whether they are related to life, work, or play.
Weekly Inspiration
Journaling Kit
Traveling with a few supplies means you can journal in any style you like anywhere you are. Personally, I only carry my Derwent Inktense pan, brushes, glue runner, and pens. Everything else I add at home.
Creative Journaling
I love how the journaling here is turned in one area. It’s a beautiful change that adds appeal to the page and proves that you can go your own way even in the midst of a layout.

Good vibes indeed! This page is a perfect representation of fall. For some reason, it has me wanting a warm cup of apple cider.
The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!
Weekly Prompts
47.01 If you could live inside any book or movie for a week, which would you choose, and why?
My daughter is fascinated with The Notebook; she even dressed as Noah for Halloween this year (which was hilarious). But what about living inside of that story? What story would appeal to you? Think about the setting, the weather, the people, and the events as you choose one to live in for your happily ever after.
47.02 What would you name a scent inspired by your favorite season, and what notes would it have?
I have been shocked to learn so much about perfume and what goes into it. It was something I had never paid much attention to in the past. Each perfume has different layers of notes, so what notes appeal to you, and which would you choose for your perfume? Give it a name, and maybe design the bottle on your journal page today.
47.03 What was the first item you saved up for, and how did it feel when you finally got it?
Saving money is hard, especially with today’s inflation and high prices. Think about the first time you decided you wanted something bad enough to save your hard-earned cash for it. Was it necessary or simply a prize to be had? Did you face the temptation to give up every time you added to your stash, or were you diligent about saving?
47.04 Describe a time when you got caught doing something you weren’t supposed to.
How did you talk your way out of it (or not)? This time can be with a parent or other authority figure. Maybe you got pulled over by a cop and talked your way out of a ticket? Perhaps you got caught shoplifting as a child and wiggled out of it? Think big! Write it all out, and if you haven’t already done so, share it with your kids. Show them that you weren’t always perfect!
47.05 Make a quick list of your go-to “mood boosters” for a rough day.
There are times when every day seems to need a mood booster or three, especially lately. So what are some of yours? I fall back to doodling most of the time. But that’s just one; a couple of others are taking a walk, playing games on the iPad, reading, and grounding. Make yourself a list, and once you have that list handy, keep it written in an easy-to-access area for when you are feeling the funk.
47.06 What’s a recent small win you’d like to give yourself credit for?
I struggle with my body’s inability to metabolize correctly. It’s a fact and it sucks. But the small wins mean a lot. Really look into your biggest battle and see what the small wins are. Give yourself credit for those, make a list, and pat yourself on the back now and often. The small wins really add up over time.
47.07 Word of the week: Wabbit.
Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. I spent my whole life believing it was the Looney Tunes version of rabbit. Who knew it had another meaning!
