Weekly prompts to help you think a little harder, write a little longer, and have a bit of fun in your journal. I provide the prompt and then a bit of discussion afterward to help you think beyond the prompt.

How To Use Weekly Prompts

Using weekly prompts can be as simple or as difficult as you would like. I do not use one every day, and sometimes I use several from the weekly prompts list at one time. Over time, I have learned that too simple doesn’t work for me. I like to push the question around in my mind, look at it from a couple of different perspectives, and see what comes out.

Imagine, if you will, the prompt as a unique piece of artwork. Put that piece of artwork on a pedestal and then move around it. Look from side to side, high to low, and anything between. I want it to speak to me, give me thoughts, and guide my thoughts into a deeper understanding.

In all seriousness, I do study the question. I don’t spend hours on it and sometimes not even minutes. A few seconds and a few pointed questions after. Generally, those questions begin with why. Why did the prompt spark that response? Does that matter to me, and why? Why did I choose that answer/point? My meanings and questions can be vastly different from yours. That’s okay! The prompts are supposed to spark YOUR thoughts and feelings.

Focus Quote

The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.

Terry Pratchett

You may have noticed a couple of weeks missing. I apologize, I took time off. Sometimes, when life gets busy and overwhelming you have to make adjustments for your own well being. I did just that, made an adjustment that helped me out drastically. But, we are back on track now.

Part of the joy of journaling is that there are no rules. You do not have to follow any set rule or pattern, you do not have to use punctuation, you do not have to talk about your feelings, you do not have to use words at all, and most importantly, you do not have to do it at all. Journaling is so powerful and personal.

When I open my journal, there is a shift in my personality. The rules of my life, the ‘live-bys’ and the shoulds all go to the wayside. There is only the pen, the paper, and me. Some days, I bring in paint and other fun supplies, but at the end of the day, at the bare minimum, it’s me and the paper: no rules, no worries, just freedom.

Weekly Inspiration

Journaling

Don’t forget that your journal can be small. It can be decorated or plain. No matter what size of page you are filling, just enjoy the journey.

Creative Journaling

While I don’t know her purpose here, I do know that using cute notes or papers are a great way to cover private writing while also creating a great creative journaling page.

Art Journaling

The message on your art journal page can sometimes speak volumes but more often than not it is a reminder of a moment or a thought or a problem that you have had or dealt with. At a glance, I know what was behind every page I have done.

The images that I choose for inspiration are not about the links. They are solely about the images and what they represent. I love seeing other people’s journals. I love the inspiration that hits me to go write in my own. Sometimes, that inspiration leads me to try something I have seen on their pages. Mostly, it just inspires me to write!

Weekly Prompts

63.01 When do you feel the most beautiful?

Is it when you are dressed to the nines and ready for time out? It may be when you are happy and comfortable with the world around you. Do you feel that your beauty is part of your outer shell? The old saying ‘beauty is only skin deep’ is important. With the right tools, anyone can be beautiful on the outside. Your true beauty is from within. Learn your true worth and keep people around you who see that worth. They are the true beauties in this world.

63.02 Do you hide parts of yourself from others?

I would venture that we all do that to some extent. I do not share parts of myself with everyone. Some people never make it beyond the first barrier. How many barriers do you have? My wall game is strong. While you may break through a few, an entire set is reinforced steel, and no one is making it through

63.03 Who are you when nobody is looking?

Blake Shelton’s song ‘Who Are You When I’m Not Looking’ is a masterpiece. It opened my eyes to how different I am when no one is around. My comfort is complete when I am alone. I’m okay with what I am wearing, I don’t care how my hair looks, I can’t be bothered with keeping my game face on, and most importantly, I feel no pressure to be anything other than myself.

63.04 What is your favorite ‘tough talk’ comment?

I am not tough, and I am sure I would be out at the first sign of danger. But oh, I love to talk tough sometimes, haha. Some of my favorites are ‘I will cut you,’ ‘I will punch you in the throat,’ and my friends ‘I want to put my foot on his neck and press down gently.’ Funny enough, I couldn’t do any of those things, but talking tough can sometimes make you feel so much better.

63.05 Describe a time when you were able to overcome something painful.

This is not a time to reflect on the pain but rather to focus on the achievement of having moved past it. Some things in this life will hurt you, or have already. Pain is something that can tear you down to the absolute bottom, but it doesn’t have to be gone for you to overcome it. Today, praise yourself for your strength to have made it another day beyond that pain. Pat yourself on the back as you write. You deserve it!

63.06 Describe a person in your life that inspires you.

Inspiration can mean many things. My daughter inspires me to be more gentle with myself and to love myself more fully. My friend inspires me to let loose and have fun no matter what is happening in my life. My mom inspires me to be more kind towards others, while my sister fires up my artistic expression. So pick a person, examine that relationship, and then describe what they inspire in you

63.07 Word of the week: Billingsgate.

Look it up, write it down, and use it in a sentence or two. You might be surprised to find out that Billingsgate is not just a ward of London!
